However, it should not be confused with NAPS (National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme), which comes under the purview of the Ministry of Skill Development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) is provided by the Government of India upon the successful completion of this course. The certificate is considered as valid work experience for all employment exchanges in India. As of 2025, 5.23 lakh apprentices have been hired under the NATS scheme in all states and union territories of India.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Is_Regular_Employment_in_India\"><\/span><b>What Is Regular Employment in India?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A regular employment relationship is one in which both parties have an employer-employee relationship that is regulated through Indian labour laws such as the Industrial Disputes Act, Factories Act, Shops and Establishments Act, and Employees&#8217; Provident Fund Act.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a regular employment relationship, the employee gets a structured salary along with other perks like contributions towards PF and ESIC, leaves, gratuity after 5 years of service and statutory rights. This type of employment relationship continues till either one of the two ends it formally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regular vs. contract employment<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a separate distinction. A contract employee works for a fixed project or term but still carries most statutory benefits. In this case, the entire framework of the Industrial Disputes Act, Factories Act, and Shops and Establishments Act will not be applicable to the apprentice for the entire period he\/she is training.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The regular employee enjoys full protection of Indian labour law right from the first day of employment.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Compensation_Stipend_vs_Salary\"><\/span><b>2. For 100 apprentices at \u20b99,000 per month, the combined PF and ESIC saving to the employer is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u20b916 to 17 lakh per year<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Duration_and_Commitment\"><\/span><b>4. Duration and Commitment<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The duration of an NATS engagement is between six to twelve months. Once the engagement is completed, the trainee gets their Certificate of Proficiency, and the engagement ends unless the employee decides to change the engagement to permanent employment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Permanent employment does not have any set duration. An apprentice is not supposed to perform at the same capacity as other employees.
