Halo Effect

Definition

The halo effect is a cognitive bias in which a single favourable attribute influences a person's entire impression. In the workplace, this means that an employee's ability in one area—such as looks, communication, or punctuality—can cause employers or peers to assume they are equally strong in other areas, even without supporting evidence.

Example in the Workplace

If an employee always dresses professionally and speaks confidently in meetings, a manager might wrongly assume they are also a high performer in technical tasks.

Impact on HR and Organisations
